We Offer:
Scuba Diving
Gypsea Centre offers guided scuba diving at Sodwana Bay,
South Africa’s premier dive destination and home to
the worlds most southern coral reefs.
Sodwana Bay’s tropical waters are a result of the
warm Agulhus current coming in close proximity to the shore.
A continental shelf lying within a kilometer of the beach
is responsible for the deep trenches that attract plentiful
game fish and push the nutrient-rich deep water up onto
the reef making this an ideal ‘feeding ground’
for both filter feeders (Whale Shark and Manta Rays) and
predators (sharks) alike.
The water is clear due to the lack of rivers in this area.
The reef boasts over 95 identified species of Hard and Soft
corals, over 1200 reef fish species and numerous invertebrates
all packed into a 50 kilometre coral reef complex.
For non-divers we offer PADI and CMAS dive courses from
1 day Discover Scuba courses or Open Water to Dive Master
certified courses.
A full range of Dive equipment is available for hire.
Open Ocean Excursions
Gypsea Centre offers half or full day Open Ocean Excursions
for scuba divers, snorkelers and boat-based viewers.
Enjoy an interactive experience with Whale Shark, Dolphins
or Whales whilst on one of our excursions. Lunch and refreshments
are provided on the boat.
Interactive Marine Experiences
Informative experiences with Whale Sharks, Sharks, Whales
or Dolphins. This product offers you excellent photographic
opportunities and first hand experience with data collection
and photo-I.D. of these migratory species. Aerial surveys
are conducted to assist in location of Whale Sharks, Whales
and Dolphins along the coast.
Pregnant Ragged Tooth Sharks visit ¼ mile reef off
Sodwana Bay in the summer. The docile nature of this species
during gestation provides a close-up experience for scuba
divers and snorkelers.
